Bolton Wanderers- January 2009 Transfer Window Week 1
There are no specific needs in the Bolton squad, just a general requirement to add quality and depth in all areas and freshen the mix.
Gary Megson has been linked with West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison but reportedly Tony Mowbray turned down a £3 million offer. Megson might go back with an improved bid. These two clubs are both linked with QPR striker Dexter Blackstock.
Hearts impressive defender Christophe Berra has been linked with a move to the Reebok Stadium. The centre back seems the kind of player Hearts need to hold on to but transfer and recruitment policy at Tynecastle can be subject to sudden whims. Other clubs will keep sniffing around until February.
Gary Megson is tight-lipped about his targets as the tabloids say but old boy Tal Ben-Haim is the main name in the frame. He's become used to higher wages at Chelsea and Manchester City which could be stumbling block- then again he's also become used to warming the bench.
Dietmar Hamann's name is one that few Bolton fans expected back on their radar after his last minute rejection of the club when he headed for Man City. Business is business though and the German is probably on his way out of Eastlands, while Wanderers need midfield cover so this one could be a goer.
Ryan Taylor of Wigan is a player who seems to be being touted around to a few clubs at the moment. His dead ball skills make him more than just another full back and it is a surprise that Wigan might be selling.
On the negative side, there are fears that Sam Allardyce might come raiding to take Kevin Davies to Blackburn. The former Trotters boss is also a potential competitor for Ben-Haim's signature.
