Summer Window Watch- Blackburn Rovers (1)
Blackburn have been off the mark quickly in the summer transfer market but the signings so far won't overcome the anxiety of the fans about the loss of Roque Santa Cruz.
Gael Givet's signing confirms the decent impression the Frenchman made in his loan spell from Marseille last season. His signature might become even more important with some speculation in the air about Chris Samba joining Santa Cruz in the Manchester City casino.
Elrio Van Heerden is a South African midfielder coming in from FC Bruges. Rovers have benefitted from the combative presence of his international colleagues Aaron Mokoena and striker Benni McCarthy- the Bafana Bafana made a good impression in the recent Confederations Cup and the midfielder looks a decent punt by Sam Allardyce.
Van Heerden began his European career at FC Copenhagen and Lars Jacobsen is a former team mate from the Danish club. The defender only played six times in his year at Everton but his last appearance was in the FA Cup Final as a second half sub.
Before Goodison Park Jacobsen was at FC Nuremburg in the Bundesliga but that season was also ravaged by injury. The question is whether the Dane can regain the form that made a strong impression when he played for Copenhagnen in Europe and for the Danish national side.
The fourth new signing is one for the future; Nikos Giannakopulous is a teenage Greek goalkeeper picked up for £52,000.
