Drogba and Anelka look good each way value for Champions' league top scorer
With Didier Drogba having completed his European ban he looks fired up for another tilt at The Champions' League. After being sent off in the final two years ago and then banned for his outburst following semi-final defeat last season Drogba needs to show a little more coolness under fire if he wants the big prize.
But Drogba has been quoted as saying that his son's complaints about his behaviour have helped him mature as a footballer and he is intent on avoiding some of the incidents that he is prone to get involved in. A more mature Drogba at the joint favourites for the Champions' League itself looks good each way value as leading scorer - especially in an open race.
The race to be leading scorer is wide open with Cristiano Ronaldo leading on four goals, four players on three goals and no less than 27 players tied on two goals in the competition. With such an open, low scoring, field the logical thought is that the leading scorer will come from one of the teams that reach at least the semi-final. With Ronaldo unlikely to play again in the tournament until the knock-out stage other players can now take centre stage.
Dzagoez, Mutu and Grafite are unlikely to progress far enough in the tournament to get enough goals; leaving only Cesc Fabregas ahead of the likes of Drogba and Anelka if you discount Ronaldo for the moment.
CL 2009/10 Leading scorers:
4 Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
3 Adrian Mutu (Fiorentina)
3 Cesc Fábregas (Arsenal)
3 Grafite (Wolfsburg)
3 Alan Dzagoev (CSKA Moscow)
2 27 players (including Scholes, Anelka, Drogba, Kalou & Valencia)
Drogba is 10/1 with Bet365* so £10 each way bet (£20 stake) would result in a £125 profit if Drogba was the leading scorer and a £15 pofit if he finished in the top four. Anelka would similarly yield a profit of £150 and £20.
