Gareth Barry is a good price to score against Brazil
With only Wayne Rooney and Gareth Barry available from the strongest first eleven that England could put out today there are obvious opportunities. Of course everyone is right to consider the chances for fringe players (even if the likes of Luke Young scorned even this chance) - but there is also an opportunity for the players that are definitely going to South Africa to escape the shadows for a few minutes.
A player like Gareth Barry, playing defensive midfield, could really benefit from the absence of players like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard - especially as he is likely to be in charge of set-pieces like free-kicks and penalties. Rooney is not a player who looks to take set-pieces, preferring to play more instinctively, so from the England team who is more likely to take them than Barry?
England team v Brazil: Foster, Brown, Bridge, Barry, Upson, Lescott, Wright-Phillips, Jenas, Bent, Rooney (captain), Milner.
In a young England team, Barry is likely to be a dominant personality and is 20/1 to score the first goal and 6/1 to score at any time during the game. I'm not convinced that England will win, but with Rooney and Bent likely to be ruthlessly marked an England goal may well not come from open play - making Barry as likely to score as anyone.
