Manchester City v Burnley: Is another away day horror show on the cards for Burnley?

Manchester City have only lost once this season but after four draws on the trot Mark Hughes has to get City back to winning ways this afternoon against a Burnley side who are frankly hopeless on the road.

City should be buoyed by the return of former Arsenal duo Toure and Adebayor who were sorely missed against Birmingham City last weekend. But the history books suggest that this should be an easy three points for the Citizens. They haven’t lost to Burnley in the past 35 years and have scored 21 goals past them in their last five meetings, albeit their last meeting was in 2001.

Burnley have won many admirers for their resilient home displays but when they set out on their travels they play like strangers. They have lost every away game this season, scoring just twice in the process, and only their Lancashire counterparts Blackburn have conceded more on the road. The Clarets have already leaked big figures against Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool, could this turn out to be another horror show? The Panel certainly thinks so.

A win for City will see them go level on points with Arsenal in third, albeit for a few hours as the Gunners take on Wolves in the day’s later kick-off, but a win for Burnley would see them climb to within a point of the high-spending City.

Manchester City v Burnley; Kick Off 3pm 07 Nov 2009
