Burnley v Wolverhampton Wanderers: Salvation is in the air

Bookmark and Share

Burnley passed up a guilt-edged opportunity to climb out of the bottom three in midweek by only drawing with Stoke City. If they do the same against fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon then they may as well kiss their survival hopes goodbye.

The Claret’s impressive home form has been the only thing keeping Burnley in the hunt to beat the drop this season and this is the ultimate six-pointer. Both sides enter the game on 24 points but the Wanderers’s superior goal difference of six means they are currently above the drop zone at Burnley’s expense, but that could all change this afternoon.

Wolves go into the game having won only twice away from Molineux in the league and with real problems scoring goals. However their recent record at Turf Moor is quite impressive. They have won on three of their past four visits to Lancashire and I’m sure Mick McCarthy doesn’t need to tell the players how vital this game is for them.

Burnley fans have not tasted league victory in 18 outings but a win today would put a whole new perspective on their run-in. Three points would see the Clarets leapfrog their opponents and put Wolves in real danger with just nine games remaining.
