Tottenham versus Arsenal the pick as the top six takes shape

Bookmark and Share

At the tail-end of the season the prediction panel is still in operation and ready to call the midweek games. The big game is the north London derby with Spurs looking to put pressure on Manchester City in the battle for fourth - whilst Arsenal can go second and dream of the title if they prevail. A couple of rungs down, last season's fifth and sixth placed teams meet in seventh and eighth places - and both will have an eye on a top six finish if they can win. Finally seventeenth placed Wigan are at home to relegated Portsmouth - and a win could push the Latics to safety.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal: Defeat’s not an option but a draw’s no good either

The visitors haven’t given up hope of snatching the Premier League title off the leaders Chelsea while Spurs are right in the hunt with Manchester City for the fourth Champions League spot. A win tonight will give the victor’s aspirations a massive boost. Defeat though will almost certainly spell the end for the losers.

Prediction: 1-1 draw

Aston Villa vs Everton: Dreaming of next season

Both Villa and Everton will want to lay down markers for next season as both now have the squads to threaten top four finishes and that could mean that this is a tight game decided by a single goal. But with no prizes to play for there could be a few players on show looking to save themselves for the World Cup this summer. It would be unsurprising if this is a slow-paced game that will kick-off in spring sunshine.

Prediction: 2-2 draw

Wigan Athletic vs Portsmouth: Wigan eye safety against demob happy Pompey

With an FA Cup final, sundry World Cup places around and many players who will be looking for new clubs in the next few weeks who will expect Portsmouth to fight to the death on Wigan's lumpy, Lancashire pitch? If Wigan can't win this one then there will be few acceptable excuses if next season is spent in the Championship with the visitors.

Prediction: 2-0 Wigan win.
