Bookmark and Share

Though there are no easy ties in the Champions League, the draw for the qualifiers has been kind to Spurs. The Swiss club are a less worrying proposition than Sampdoria or Dinamo Kiev but who are Young Boys?

1. Though they have 11 Swiss titles, Young Boys have not topped the pile in the Swiss Super League since way back in 1986.

2. The club have been to the European Cup semi-finals but it was as far back as 1959.

3. Young Boys came through a tie with Fenerbahce to reach the pairing with Spurs, coming through 3-2 on aggregate by winning 1-0 in Istanbul. They had needed a late, late penalty to escape with a draw in their home leg.

4. Last season Atheltico Bilbao knocked them out of the Europa League at the first attempt

5. Form has been mixed so far. The win over Fenerbahce is the highlight but they have not won any of three League games.

6. Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic has the side playing in fluid 3-4-3 formation since he took over in October 2009

7. Young Boys have been runners up in the Super League for the past three seasons

8. Ivorian striker Seydou Dombia top scored in Switzerland for the past two campaigns but he has now moved on to CSKA Moscow. He scored 30 League goals last season and no other Berne player got more than 12

9. The team are skippered by keeper Markus Wolfli who has 5 Swiss caps

10. David Degen , brother of Liverpool's Phillipe, plays right midfield and is also a Swiss international. Berne have an English-qualified defender on their books too- Scott Sutter, who has a Swiss father but played youth football for Charlton.
