West Bromwich Albion v Sunderland: Baggies look to bounce back from mauling

Bookmark and Share

The Baggies were widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge with nothing last weekend, but not many people thought they would lose so heavily. That 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea means Albion’s home games have become even more important in their quest for survival.

They put Sunderland to the sword in their last meeting at the Hawthorns 3-0 but that wasn’t enough to keep them in the top flight. It was also their first win in five over the Black Cats in the top flight.

Sunderland threw away three points last weekend at home to Birmingham and lost their combative captain Lee Catermole to suspension in the process. That could turn out to be costly as their away form is nothing to write home about. Bruce’s men managed just two wins on their travel last season – v Bolton and Hull City – and the Baggies will fancy their chances of getting their first points of the season. Unfortunately for them, the majority of the Panel is going for an away win.
