Wigan v Fulham: Can the Dutch master Jol see off the silky Spaniard Martinez?

Wigan v Fulham

It is Halloween weekend but you will be hard pressed to find anything more horrific than Wigan’s current winless run. The Latics have gone six league games straight without recording a single point and Roberto Martinez knows he needs a result soon to keep the wolves from the door. However, Fulham won’t be in the mood for rolling over and having their bellies tickled.

The Cottagers head north with a decent record at the DW Stadium. In their past six visits they have lost only once and that was courtesy of a late Pascal Chimbonda effort in their very first top flight meeting exactly six years to the day. Since then Martin Jol’s side have kept Wigan at bay and left the North West with a point on each of their past five meetings.

Martinez has a lot of issues to address at the DW, but the one thing he can be proud of is the number of chances his charges create. They have scored in every home game this season and only the heroics of Newcastle’s Tim Krul kept them off the scoresheet last weekend. With Rodallega back, Wigan have an extra attacking impetus.

However, goals have been hard to come by on the road for Fulham. Clint Dempsey’s late effort at St James’ Park in August remains their only away goal of the season and they’ve never managed to score more than one at the DW Stadium in the Premier League.

Wigan go into the game searching for their first point since August while Fulham are bidding to record their first away win of the season. It’s no wonder the majority of the panel believe this will end as a draw.
