Predict the Premier League: Fulham and Norwich flying high
While Norwich were beating West Brom at the Hawthorns, Fulham were losing to 10-men Blackburn, but both Canaries supporter Sue Read and Fulham fan Neil Springate had good reason to celebrate at the weekend as they topped the Predictions table.
Sue and Neil topped the weekly chart with 12 points each, a tally that has given them a boost in the overall standings. Sue's points came courtesy of three perfect scores - Villa's 1-1 with Everton, United's 3-0 win over Bolton and Norwich's 2-1 away win at the Hawthorns. Her other three points came from Spurs' win over Everton, Newcastle's triumph over QPR and Manchester City's win at Wigan.
Rather spookily, Neil's predictions were exactly the same as Sue's. Is there something going on that we should know about?
Previous Predictions League champion Chris Cox gave Wolves fans another lift with his points total of 11. After thwarting Spurs at the Lane, Chris gave his faint title hopes a boost with his score. And, as fate would have it, Chris was joined on 11 points by Tottenham fan Mike Richards.
A total of seven pundits got into double figures which is pretty impressive considering bankers Spurs and Liverpool let almost everyone down.
Tottenham's draw at home to Wolves was definitely the biggest coupon buster of the week, closely followed by Liverpool's goalless draw with Stoke and Arsenal's defeat to Swansea. However, West Brom fan Andy Wakeman, Squarefootball's Hugh Larkin, Middlesbrough fan Sue Gardener and West Ham's Matthew Beeby all tipped Stoke for a point at Anfield - that's why the last four are in the Experts section!
West Brom fan Andy was also only one of two pundits to tip Arsenal to lose at the Liberty Stadium, the other was Swansea's very own Jim White.
Villa's clash with Everton had draw written all over it and 11 pundits got the final score bang on, with a further four predicting a draw but not 1-1. Another 11 knew Blackburn would beat Fulham, but only West Ham Expert Mitch Waddon got the 3-1 score correct.
Chelsea were well backed to see off Martin O'Neill's Sunderland but a mixture of good fortune and poor finishing ensured a clean sheet for the Blues. Only Arsenal's Don McMahon predicted that game was going to finish 1-0.
Manchester United were hot favourites to thrash Bolton. A total of 34 pundits predicted a home win with 16 getting the 3-0 scoreline spot on. Norwich were backed by seven pundits to beat West Brom, six of them going for a 2-1 win.
Everyone bar Arsenal's Don McMahon and Villa Expert Lynette Ranson, who failed to submit her predictions in time, collected points from the game at the DW Stadium when bottom entertained top, but nobody thought it would end 1-0.
Finally, Spurs beat Everton 2-0 at the Lane in the midweek fixture, which was predicted by everyone who got their scores for that one in on time.
Here is a table to clearly illustrate who scored what this past weekend.
