QPR v Wigan Athletic: Will Hughes win huge six-pointer?

Bookmark and Share

QPR v Wigan

Mark Hughes failed to inspire his new side to victory at Newcastle United last weekend but the former Manchester City and Fulham coach will be hoping home comforts will serve him well against the bottom side Wigan.

QPR fans have seen their side win only once in the league at Loftus Road this season - although it was a sweet one over Chelsea - and Hughes knows he must make them unbeatable at home if they are to have any chance of beating the drop.

Wigan have the same problem - poor at home, decent away - but they also need to find another gear to kick-start their climb to safety. The Latics haven't won since December 10 when they turned the Baggies over at The Hawthorns. Martinez will see this as a must-win game.

This will be only the eighth ever meeting between the two sides and the statistics are split right down the middle with three draws and two wins apiece. Wigan came out on top in the fixture earlier this season 2-0 - their only home win of the campaign. It was also the first time either team had won by a greater margin than one. Both teams are vying for the points to beat the drop but who will get them? Our pundits are siding with the home side.

QPR v Wigan Athletic; Kick Off 3pm January 21 2012
