Spurs v West Brom: Baggies clash promises goals at the Lane

Bookmark and Share

Spurs v West Brom

Harry Redknapp's men dropped two points at Swansea on New Year's Eve but it wasn't that bad as they still made up one point on the champions Manchester United, who of course lost at home to Blackburn Rovers, and the leaders Manchester City, who lost to Sunderland. Tonight Tottenham take on West Brom Albion who started 2012 with defeat at home to Everton, but can Roy Hodgson's men consign Spurs to their first home defeat since August?

Games between Spurs and West Brom always produce goals - you have to go back to 1968 for the last goalless draw between the two at the Lane - but the visitors always make life difficult for Spurs. The Baggies drew 2-2 in north London last season and only went down by one goal in their previous two visits. With both teams promoting attacking football the end result tends to come down to luck and quality in front of goal.

Spurs haven't lost at home since that 5-1 drubbing by Manchester City but they will have to be wary of the threat posed by West Brom's Shane Long, Peter Odemwingie and James Morrison. They have pace, vision and strength to get the better of most teams.

West Brom haven't lost on their travels since going down 3-0 to Arsenal. Since then they have gone to Blackburn and Newcastle and left with all three points. Unfortunatley they haven't managed to find the back of the net in their last two games - v Manchester City and Everton - so Hodgson will be hoping to end that run at least tonight.

Spurs haven't lost at home to West Brom since going down 2-3 in November 1984. Will the Baggies rewrite history tonight or will the Spurs keep marching on? Our pundits can see this going only one way.

Spurs v West Brom; Kick Off 7.45pm January 3 2011
