Wolves v Chelsea: Can Wolves pile the pressure on AVB?

Bookmark and Share

Wolves v Chelsea

Aston Villa consigned Chelsea to their third home defeat of the season on New Year's Eve. Today the Blues head up to the Black Country looking to making amends against a Wolves side who actually beat them this time last year.

Jose Bosingwa was the villain last season as he scored an early own goal at Molineux to give Wolves all three points. Wolves boss Mick McCarthy wouldn't turn down a similar gift this afternoon as his side sit perilously close to the drop zone.

Chelsea have slipped outside of the top four and AVB faces a real fight to get the club back into the top four, with Arsenal and Liverpool both welcoming back club greats in Henry and Gerrard. Abramovich may well open up his chequebook again to make sure the Blues down miss out on the Champions League.

Wolves have recorded three draws on the spin against Norwich, Arsenal and Bolton - coming from behind in each of them to salvage a point - so they will be up for this one. With Chelsea's defence seemingly all at sea, with David Luis playing like a little boy lost, Wolves are going to pile the pressure on John Terry and co.

Chelsea traditionally have a good record against Wolves - they've lost just once at Molineux in the Premier League having conceded one and scored seven - so AVB will demand his side attack from the off, but you can never write off Wolves when the big boys come to town. However, that is exactly what our pundits have down!
