Spurs v Blackburn Rovers: Will it be party time for Spurs or Blackburn?

Bookmark and Share

Newcastle United's shock defeat yesterday at the hands of Wigan Athletic has given Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Redknapp the perfect boost ahead of their crunch game with Blackburn Rovers. Win this and a top four finish is back in their own hands. But Blackburn Rovers will not make this easy for Spurs. They have their own problems to deal with and Wigan's 4-0 win has done them no favours at all.

Steve Kean's men must take something out of this game and winning at Spurs is not a rare occurance for the Lancashire men. In 2007 a late Christophe Samba goal gave them all three points and four years earlier Rovers ran riot, putting four past a hapless Kasey Keller. Rovers can also boast a further three wins at the Lane during the 90s.

With Spurs suffering a huge crisis in confidence, can Blackburn really upset the odds again and give themselves a huge boost ahead of next weekend's massive do-or-die clash with Wigan or will Spurs find their feet and push themselves back into the top four?

Since smashing Newcastle 5-0 at the Lane and the fans sang the praises of Harry Redknapp, Spurs have managed just one league win - against Swansea City on April's Fools Day. Before thumping Alan Pardew's men, Spurs had third place in the bag. Now having suffered defeats to Norwich and QPR, everyone believes Spurs have bottled it. But will Spurs have the last laugh by getting back to winning ways and clinching their place in the top four?

Blackburn are a hard side to call. They can go two games unbeaten with clean sheets under their belts then lose five on the trot with barely a goal registered. Losing this game is not an option for Blackburn as the thought of going to Chelsea on the final day of the season needing a result is terrifying.

Rovers have beaten Manchester United on their own turf but can they this afternoon beat Spurs? Our pundits are not convinced.
