Wigan Athletic v Wolves: Can Wolves finally win a game for Conner?

Bookmark and Share

Wigan Athletic and Roberto Martinez have done it again. When everyone was writing them off and saying the club was doomed, pow, they come out fighting as if they had been possessed by the spirit of Messi and co at Barcelona. Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle have all been beaten aside by the Latics in recent weeks and nobody at the DW wants the season to end.

Today they host relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers but this will not be your ususal end of season drab affair as the visitors will be desperate to win a game for their battling caretaker coach Terry Conner. Since he replaced Mick McCarthy, Conner has only managed to pick up four points. He will return to his usual job from tomorrow as the new boss Stale Solbakken comes in, but he'd love to tuck one league win under his belt.

This will be the 14th meeting between the two sides and the honours are split right down the middle. Wigan have won five - all of them coming in the league - so have Wolves, although they do include two FA Cup triumphs. Can Wigan or Wolves feel Six-y tonight?

Form is definitely with the home side but mad results do occur on the final day of seasons and this has been one of the strangest campaigns ever for freak results.

Wolves beat Wigan 3-1 on November 6 and they could complete their first and only double of the season, but Wigan have the wind in their sails. If they can beat Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle, Wolves surely won't cause them any problems, will they? Our pundits think not.
