Everton: Will Junior get a chance to shine in the Premier League?

On February 14, 2012, Everton Football Club signed a young talent with the long and entertaining name Francisco Santos Da Silva Junior. Junior is a Portugal Under-21 international who graduated from the Benfica academy. After graduation he moved to Manchester City and after a few months he failed to make an impact and was released by the Citizens. And that's how he ended up at Everton.

Everton Junior

Apparently very highly rated within the world of football scouts, Everton jumped at the chance to sign him up without any transfer fee. Now the question is: why would I start writing about a young promising midfielder who hasn't made a first team appearance or any impact what so ever? That's because in our first pre-season match of the season, it was Junior who stole the headlines. Why? Because he was so damn good at everything he was trying to do. This involved running forward and attacking or running back and defending or even switching the ball to either side of the field.

Seeing this performance got me and the rest of the Everton community very excited. But then the question begs: Will Francisco Santos Da Silva Junior get a chance in the first team this season? Based on his performance against Morecambe he definitely will. But unfortunately for him central midfield is one of the only positions on the pitch where we have a vast amount of players able to fill that role. These include: Fellaini, Rodwell, Gibson, Neville, Osman, Cahill, Heitinga and then FINALLY there is Junior. So it would be fare to say that if Junior made any appearances this season they would most probably come in the Carling Cup or some major injury crisis, but here's hoping that doesn't happen!

Anyway finally, I think that Everton have a huge talent on their hands with Junior but I just hope that his talent isn't wasted this season and that he gets the chance that he so dearly deserves.

Calling all Everton fans: How excited are you about the prospect of seeing Junior in action this season? Is this kid really a star of the future? How likely do you think it is that Moyes will give him the chance to shine in the first team this season? Whatever your views, we'd love to hear from you.
