Liverpool: Is there a new king in town?

With King Kenny gone, is the new suitor Brendan Rodgers up to the task of this massive challenge?

From his humble beginnings as a player at Ballymena United all the way to Liverpool Football Club it’s been a meteoric journey for Brendan Rodgers. After being Chelsea reserve manager while Jose Mourinho was in charge it's clear that his style of play has gone through the club as we have seen with Rodgers at Swansea - playing fast and fluent football also playing with the famous 4-3-3 formation which saw Chelsea win the league and saw Swansea win promotion to the top flight.

Will he be a success as the head honcho at Liverpool? Only time will tell. With the players he has at his disposal he should do well. If you were to ask me you have to give Joe Cole a chance as he was born to play the 4-3-3 formation. Joe Cole was an integral part of that formation under Jose Mourinho so he would know it very well, plus on his day the man is a world beater.

But it's not just Joe Cole. With the form Steven Gerrard showed during Euro 2012 hopefully he will take that into the new season with him. With a fully fit Steven Gerrard in your team that’s a huge boost to any line-up and opposition players and fans fear seeing his name on the team sheet as he really is a top, top player.

With a good backbone to the team in Reina, Agger, Gerrard and Suarez you really do have a talented bunch of players and with the returning Lucas, and maybe a few additions in the transfer market, they will be a team to watch for the new season.

Their home form surprisingly let them down season but there’s one thing you can’t blame for that and that's the fans. Whenever you go to Anfield and hear “You'll Never Walk Alone“ it sends goosebumps up any fans' neck, no matter if you are an Everton or Manchester United fan.

I just hope Rodgers gets the time to show what he can do. The man knows how to play good fluent football and if the board backs him financially and reassures him of job security he will be a breath of fresh air to the football club.

Calling all Liverpool fans: What are your expectations for the season ahead? Can Rodgers turn the team around and get you back to playing fluent attacking football again? What will happen to Andy Carroll? Would you let him out on loan to AC Milan or can he fit into Rodgers' style of play? Whatever your views we'd love to hear from you.
