Manchester United: Would Lucas Moura be a good signing?
The 19-year-old Brazilian would certainly be a welcome addition to the Manchester United midfield in my eyes. He’s one of several emerging young stars from Brazil, along with Neymar, Ganso and new Chelsea signing Oscar. Already capped 15 times by his country and going to the London Olympics, Lucas Moura has already proven his credentials. He’s an exciting player to watch and that bodes well for United and their supporters.
Very highly regarded at Sao Paulo, the club have resisted attempts in the past. In May, Chelsea were denied after a 40 million euro bid. Inter Milan have also recently been snubbed in the Press by Sao Paulo director of football Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes:
"There is no (formal) offer (from Inter) and, even if it were to appear, this amount is ridiculous. How can you pay €25m (£20m) for a player of Lucas's quality? Italian football is broke - the club (Inter) are broke. It seems they are creating this to satisfy the fans."
Moura is obviously a player worth pursuing and Manchester United hope to sign him up before the Olympics. He would fit in well at United, who are looking to become a quicker team, especially in attack. Moura can play out wide on the wing, but his true talent shows when he is played in the middle. He has the gift to be able to pass people in the middle of the pitch and he has genuine pace. United have plenty of pace on the wings, but it is evident that Sir Alex wants more speed to attack through the center. Carrick and Scholes are skilled passers, but with Kagawa, Powell, and the potential addition of Moura, there would be an immediate attacking presence.
I don’t think he will have a problem adjusting to the Premier League, his skill is too good and his potential is outstanding. Perhaps overshadowed by Neymar in Brazil, Moura is still a star for the present and the future.
Manchester United haven’t always had success with South American signings, Kleberson coming to mind. I think that it may initially be difficult, but he will have a lot of talent around him as well. There is no pressure to do everything, allowing him the freedom to flourish for Manchester United. There has been a lot of talk in the last few days about Moura coming to United, if it comes to fruition, it would be a brilliant signing by Ferguson.
Calling all United fans: Do you agree with Alex’s views? Would you like to see Lucas Moura at Old Trafford? Will the Glazers splash the cash on a marquee signing in an attempt to win back the Premier League title? Whatever your views we’d love to hear from you.
