Manchester City: Mancini’s Transfer window errors

With less than two weeks left until the start of the Premier League season there is an eerie silence surrounding Eastlands with the complete lack of new faces that has symbolised seasons past.

With the Van Persie connection coming to an almost certain end and two offers for Daniel Agger rejected, you really do have to wonder where that first transfer will come from.

Here are my top tips for Mancini (in the rare circumstance that he would come to me for advice):

1. For the love of god, keep Adam Johnson!

During his City reign from February 2010, Adam Johnson has scored some amazing and crucial goals (see below). He has brilliant skills on the ball and blinding pace. His head isn’t always in the game and he’s taken a lot of stick from Mancini but the man can play and we need him. There have been suggestions that he could be replaced by a “better” winger like Theo Walcott or Scott Sinclair, but he is only 25 and while he may not be as consistently good, Johnson at his best is of a higher calibre.

 2. Send Adebayor to the reserves

This needs to happen in order to teach the others a lesson. Manchester City will not be held to ransom by unneeded players demanding higher wages than they are worth.

3. Let Dzeko go, promote Balloltelli

Edin Dzeko has recently vented frustration at missing out on starting spots late last season and has said he will entertain transfer options if he doesn’t get regular starting spots. He’s within his rights to think so because he is exceptional and too good to be preparing the oranges at City. We need someone of a slightly younger mould who is still honing his craft. Having such a man, in the form of crazy Mario, is valid because he needs the bench time and the goal of becoming a regular to make him grow. It is helpful. For Dzeko, it is not.

4. Sign someone!

Man City will struggle to keep up in all competitions with their current squad. It’s been said by everyone including Mancini. While the initial lull without a signing was a sign of maturity and thoughtfulness, things have just become stale and staggered now. It’s been too long – we need a signing. We need to put forward an aggressive third bid for Daniel Agger – he is the man we need.

Calling all Manchester City fans: Do you agree with Venz? Should Johnson stay at the Etihad? Does Mancini need to splash the cash now? Should Dzeko be allowed to leave? Are you confident that you can retain your Premier League title? Whatever your view we'd love to hear from you.
