Sunderland v Liverpool: Can Rodgers gain victory on the pitch?

Sunderland v Liverpool

It's been an emotional week for everyone associated with Liverpool Football Club following the independent review into the Hillsborough tragedy and there has been justice at long last for the innocent 96 fans who lost their lives that day. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will now be hoping to end the week with a victory on the pitch.

Both Liverpool and Sunderland enter this game looking for their first win of the season. The Reds were disappointingly average last time out against Arsenal at Anfield while Sunderland gave Swansea City a real scare at the Liberty. But who will come out on top here?

Sunderland have only beaten Liverpool at the Stadium of Light three times in the Premier League. Once was with the help of a beach ball, another was with the help of a striker who has been described the size of a beach ball - Nicklas Bendtner! (A bit of an over exaggeration I know, especially coming from Slim Jim here, but it makes for good reading!) But that's two wins for the Black Cats out of their last three meetings at home. That must be a worry for the visitors, especially as they have Martin O'Neill in charge.

Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool players will be desperate to give their long-suffering fans to cheer about following the week they have had. Unfortunately, our pundits believe Sunderland aren't going to play ball.
