Wigan v Stoke City: Can the Potters grab their first win of the season?

Bookmark and Share

Wigan v stoke

Wigan and Stoke City have met eight times in the Premier League but these encounters tend to be hard games to predict. The Latics have two wins of those meetings to Stoke's one, which means five have ended in a stalemate.

Today's clash is equally as hard to pick out a winner. Stoke City have drawn their opening two fixtures against Reading and Arsenal while Wigan have lost to Chelsea and defeated Southampton at St Mary's. Martinez's men enjoyed a comfortable win in the Capital One Cup in midweek over Nottingham Forest. The same could not be said for Stoke, who went out at home 4-3 to Swindon Town.

Wigan came out victorious in this meeting last season, 2-0, and of course saved their Premeir League skin at the Britannia in 2011 thanks to Hugo Rodallega. Stoke, who have been a tough proposition for most top flight clubs, haven't seen off Wigan since they arrived in the top flight in 2008/09.

Both sides will see this as winnable. Unfortunately our panel can see the points going either way.

Panel Verdict

It's a tight one but Wigan may just edge it.
