Predict the Premier League: Liverpool are on the up
It was only a matter of time before Liverpool recorded their first win of the season. Norwich City were made to pay as Luis Suarez found his scoring boots at Carrow Road, yet again. However, Reds fan Dave Disciascio had another reason to celebrate this past weekend . . . he was our top pundit with 12 points!
Mr Disciascio picked up his points tally thanks to predicting the correct scores between Arsenal and Chelsea, Everton and Southampton and Sunderland against Wigan, along with correct outcomes at Craven Cottage, Carrow Road and the Britannia Stadium.
His haul has sent him soaring in the overall table and out of any relegation trouble.
His nearest challenger to the top spot this week was QPR fan John Jaycock, who was just one away from recording the same points as Dave. Mr Jaycock climbed to second in the overall table and Sunderland's Tony Ratton will have to watch out this weekend.
At the other end it wasn't such a good week for Stoke, Norwich or Newcastle. Jack Heaney, Sue Read and Greg Hall could only manage three points each.
Arsenal v Chelsea
It was the early kick-off on the Saturday but these could play at four in the morning and still put on a great show. Despite being the champions of Europe and Premier League leaders, only three pundits thought the Blues would win at the Emirates. Chelsea's Joe Tyler was repaid for his faith in his team by picking up three points, as was Liverpool's Dave Disciascio, and Southampton's Andy Saunders picked up a point.
Everton v Southampton
A total of 16 out of 20 pundits picked up at least a point from this game. Everton sent the Saints packing with a 3-1 win, something Everton's Chris Goodwin, Manchester United's Alex Richert, Reading's Jon Kean, Sunderland's Tony Ratton and Wigan's Jimmy Shine all predicted.
Fulham v Manchester City
Only half of our pundits predicted Manchester City would leave Craven Cottage with all three points. The champions left it late and had to thank Eden Dzeko for the points. Out of those 10 only City's Callum Rothwell and QPR's John Jaycock went away with maximum points.
Norwich City v Liverpool
The Canaries could do nothing to stop Liverpool's attack on Saturday. They lost 5-2, a scoreline that, unsurprisingly, nobody predicted. However, another 10 pundits got the result bang on.
Reading v Newcaste United
The Royals will feel aggrieved by Demba Ba's second goal at the Madejski but his first was probably worth two on its own. The way he kept his eye on the dropping ball to volley it into the back of the net was first class. Only four pundits predicted a draw here - Everton's Chris Goodwin, Fulham's Neil Springate, Man City's Callum Rothwell and Swansea City's Jim Barry. Ba's controversial goal also allowed Fulham's Neil Springate to pick up maximum points.
Stoke City v Swansea City
The Potters recorded their first win of the season against Swansea, as the Swans fell to their third straight defeat. Fifteen pundits went for a home win, QPR's John Jaycock, Swansea's Jim Barry, West Brom's Andy Wakeman and West Ham's Matt Beeby picked up three points for predicting it would finish 2-0.
Sunderland v Wigan Athletic
The Black Cats recorded their first win of the season thanks yet again to their main man Steven Fletcher. It's hard to believe that so many people questioned whether he could actually make it at the Stadium of Light. The former Wolves man was on target to give the Black Cats a 1-0 win. Fifteen pundits went for a home win, but only Liverpool's Dave Disciascio and Man City's Callum Rothwell got the score spot on.
Manchester United v Spurs
The visitors hadn't won at Old Trafford for 23 years but AVB rewrote the history books with an inspired 3-2 win. This was the biggest coupon buster of the weekend and not a single pundit in this division tipped Spurs for a win.
Aston Villa v West Brom
There was a time when Villa were the dominant team in this fixture but the Baggies were looking to record back-to-back wins at Villa Park. They were on the right track until Darren Bent came off the bench to rescue a point. Six pundits expected this to end in a draw but only Arsenal's Josh Ben Moshe, QPR's John Jaycock and Tottenham's Mike Richards predicted a 1-1.
QPR v West Ham United
The Hammers took on the R's at Loftus Road and Sam Allardyce was looking to pick up his first three points on their travels this season. Matt Jarvis and Ricardo Vaz Te put them two up before Taarabt hit back, but the Hammers held firm to collect three away points. Only three pundits though tipped the Irons for a win - West Brom's Andy Wakeman, Southampton's Andy Saunders and the Hammers' Matt Beeby. Mr Saunders and Mr Beeby were spot on with their 1-2 prediction.
