West Ham United v Southampton: Expect goals galore at Upton Park

Bookmark and Share

West Ham v Southampton

If there's one game that promises goals this weekend it's this one. Southampton can't stop scoring or conceding goals while West Ham will be looking to latch on to Andy Carroll's deft flick ons.

However that may not be the case. After looking into archives I've discovered that there has only been one game at Upton Park in the past 14 years where both sides have scored in the past 14 years, but that was last season!

The Hammers have adapted well to life back in the Premier League and are currently eighth in the table, just three points off a Champions League place. Their defeat to Arsenal last weekend was their first at home this season but their battling qualities, attacking endeavours and team spirit should be enough to keep them in the race for a top half finish at least.

Southampton on the other hand need to keep some clean sheets if they want to remain in the top flight. They have only featured in one league game which hasn't seen both sides score and that was in their 2-0 home defeat to Wigan. This would definitely be on my Goals, Goals, Goals form.

The Saints are just outside the relegation zone and could potentially climb three places, but our pundits only see the points going one way.
