Arsenal: Would you be happy to see Wenger join Real Madrid?
Over the past few seasons Arsenal fans have watched their best players leave the club one by one. Patrick Vieira went to Juventus, Thierry Henry, Alex Hleb and Cesc Fabregas all signed for Barcelona, while Adebayor, Clichy, Nasri, Toure, Nasri and Van Persie all left for the sunnier climes of Manchester. But now could their iconic manager Arsene Wenger be on his way to Real Madrid?
Jose Mourinho is a dead man walking at the Bernabeu. Despite winning La Liga last season the former Chelsea boss has no chance of retaining the crown, has had a number of run-ins with high-profile stars at the club and only their involvement in the Champions League is preventing the powers that be from pulling the trigger.
According to reports coming out of Spain, Arsene Wenger and German national coach Joachim Low head a two-man list to replace Mourinho at Madrid, but would Arsenal fans be happy to see the Frenchman leave?
This rumour has been doing the rounds for a number of seasons now but Wenger has always reiterated his love for Arsenal. However, could the time now be right for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger to part their separate ways?
There was a time when Wenger could do no wrong in the eyes of the Arsenal faithful. He brought them silverware on a regular basis, introduced an exciting, attacking brand of football to the Premier League and the fans crowed In Arsene We Trust. Unfortunately, after eight years without a trophy and seeing their star players leave every season without bringing in similar quality to replace them, some fans have began questioning Wenger's standing at the club.
Arsenal are out of this season's title race and face a huge struggle to finish in the top four. They scrapped through to the next round of the FA Cup against Brighton at the weekend and face German giants Bayern Munich in the next round of the Champions League. They could end the season with a trophy, but they could also as easily end it empty-handed and out of the Champions League places.
Wenger will always be regarded as an Arsenal legend and arguably the club's greatest manager ever. But everything must come to an end and this could be the perfect time for both parties involved to go part company. Arsenal are crying out for someone with new ideas to motivate the players and be willing to splash the cash, something Arsene Wenger seems reluctant to do.
Real Madrid though would seem like a strange choice for Wenger. Wenger likes time to stamp his authority on a club and enforce his philosophy from the ground up, something the Madrid side is not really known for. Managers who have clinched La Liga and the Champions League have all been victim of club politics. In saying that though, maybe Wenger would relish a new challenge and a bit of Spanish sun.
It would be the end of an era if Wenger did move on, but would you be happy to see him leave or do you believe he can still deliver trophies to the Emirates?
Calling all Arsenal fans: Would you be happy to see Wenger leave for Real Madrid? If the Frenchman did decide to leave, who would you like to see replace him at the Emirates? Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho swap places with him? Despite the past few barren seasons, will Arsene Wenger always be an Arsenal legend? Whatever your views, we'd love to hear from you.
