Arsenal v Liverpool: What's your favourite moment?

Bookmark and Share

Premier League leaders Arsenal will be looking to extend their lead at the top this weekend when they host a Liverpool side keen to cement their place in the top four.

The Gunners were the main beneficiaries of Chelsea's surprise, but convincing, victory at the Etihad on Monday and keeps them firmly in the driving seat as far as the title is concerned.

Liverpool though, who are out of the running according to manager Brendan Rodgers, will have a say in the destination of the trophy and the SAS will severely test the Gunners' title credentials. It should prove to be an entertaining clash and may live long in the memory of the fans.

Arsenal 89The sides first met in 1893 and it was a bad day to be an Arsenal fan as the visitors Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners. They completed the double that season with a 2-0 home win. In fact it took Arsenal until 1905 until they recorded their first win over the Merseysiders.

This fixture has produced a number of spectacular moments down the years. For Arsenal fans the memory of that title decider on May 26, 1989, will forever be up there. To go to Anfield and win 2-0 with virtually the last kick of the game was extraordinary.

They can also fondly look back at Thierry Henry's hat-trick in 2004 when they won 4-2 to keep the Invincible run going, their 6-3 League Cup win at Anfield in 2007 and Andrei Arshavin's four-goal special in that eight-goal thriller in 2009.

For Liverpool you have Michael Owen's winning goal in the 2001 FA Cup Final, their Champions League comeback in 2008 and their 2011 2-0 win at the Emirates - which remains their only league triumph over Arsenal in the past seven seasons.

But having met 214 times previously there must be hundreds of personal favourite memories from these clashes that have gone under the radar. So let's be having ya. What have been your favourite moments from the past 214 clashes?

Whatever your view, we'd love to hear from you.
